With hundreds of large resort hotels, Antalya is the region with the highest demand for gluten-free holidays in Turkey. The upside is obvious: most big hotels have a separate patisserie, large cold rooms and a sizeable kitchen brigade. The downside is just as clear: because the open buffets serve thousands of guests, the risk of cross-contamination is higher than in small boutique hotels.
So when choosing a hotel in Antalya, asking “Do you have gluten-free bread?” is not enough. What really matters is whether there are separate serving tongs, a covered gluten-free buffet section, a dedicated fryer, and whether plates are prepared individually for the guest. Hotels at Gluten-Free Safe level and above meet these points, verified by on-site inspection.
Regions
Lara & Kundu
15 minutes from the airport, with large themed hotels. Practical for short breaks and families with children.
Belek
Golf and luxury resorts. Plenty of à la carte restaurants, and it is usually easier to speak to the chef.
Side & Manavgat
An ancient city and long beaches. Lots of mid-range family hotels.
Kemer
Mountains and sea together; quieter, nature-focused hotels.
Alanya
A long season and good prices. The airport transfer is long, so packing snacks is important.
Local cuisine: likely safe options and what to watch out for
- Grilled fish (no flour, cooked on a separate grill)
- Antalya piyazı (white bean salad with tahini dressing — check that the vinegar and tahini are gluten-free)
- Chargrilled vegetables and zeytinyağlı (vegetables cooked in olive oil)
- Fresh fruit: Alanya bananas, pomegranates, oranges
- Bread or pide (flatbread) served alongside şiş köfte (grilled meatballs on skewers) and tandır (slow-roasted lamb)
- Squid and fish dredged in flour before frying
- Bulgur pilaf and kısır (bulgur salad)
- Hibeş (spicy tahini dip) and some meze, which may be thickened with breadcrumbs
"Likely safe" means the traditional recipe contains no gluten. Always ask about preparation and cross-contamination.
